This telescoping auger lasted us one year with minimal use. I think we\'ve collected less than one hundred samples with this thing. After just a few soil collections, we could see the pin eating through the 1.1" outer tube wall. After maybe 50 soil samples, the outer tube wall sheared and split like a pillsbury biscuit container. Now that its disassembled, we see the pins are shearing through the 0.9" inner tube where our rachet handle connects. Even if I beef up the outer tube by welding on washers, the inner tube will eventually fail. This tool is only good for soft soils where you have absolutely no rocks.
